Uh-1 helicopter does one flyby then approaches and flies directly overhead. It kicks up some sand as it goes over and then lands on a ship, about 100 meters away. This is a recording i made using my tascam dr-40 field recorder. Used the xy pattern, no post-processing, just some edits to cut off unwanted noise, wind puffs and stuff. It was recorded in santo andre, state of sao paulo, brazil. This sample has street sounds, with rain, people chatting (in portuguese), bird sounds, cars, bikes and airplane sounds.

Recorded just after midnight on the 4th of july 2015 during a heavy storm across southern england. The occasional rumbles of thunder came from about 50 kilometers away. The intensity of the rain slowly fades over the length of the recording. Marantz pmd-661 with internal mics.

Bell tower of the basilica of the national shrine of the immaculate conception. Recorded on the catholic university of america campus with a zoom h2 in four channel surround mode. The front mikes faced the basilica. The rear mikes were fairly close to a building and captured an off axis recording of the original peals while the reflection off the building was on axis and is louder than the original peal. The two files can be combined for a surround image.

Walking on a nature trail on a late summer evening. Walking on concrete at the beginning of the clip and on grass midways and on. A bird can be heard calling distantly in the background. Early morning in the barbacane of neuenburg castle, located above the german town of freyburg on unstrut. Birds are singing, some light traffic and bells ringing from the town can be heard in the distance. These are the rear channels of a 4ch surround recording. They went around the square and some movement across the stereo image is audible. There is traffic noise from a nearby main road. I created this torture sound for a short film i made. I used a verse 504 labtech mic with a sony mini disc recorder in my garage. I smashed a cantaloupe with a hammer adjusting mic placement until i had the desired volume and sound.

While recording birds at the south sutor above cromarty, black isle, highlands, scotland on may 7th 2014 about 3pm a raf sea king came along to practice cliff rescues nearby to my annoyance so recorded it instead. It hovered behind the trees nearby before heading towards the cliff did a lower and lift and then swept round in large circle before heading back over the sea to the base at lossiemouth. I tried out some new gear and methods! more mountainside rain! a complete storm from beginning to end with swelling and then waning rainfall, occasional thunder. Ms stereo bar on mic stand projected through open second-floor window, just under the roof eaves. Recorded july 20th during one of the mid-afternoon brief intense storms we can seem to get frequently in the rocky mountain foothills beginning around june. If you were listening and wondering, the direct sound of the thunder is somewhat occluded as i believe the storm was behind the overhanging roof and house from the perspective of the microphone array. The mountainous terrain and other objects in the field reflected some of that thunderclap, as well as the exterior wall of the home, and so this is all a little bit funky. Our town was testing the sewers somehow using audio tones to measure something. Maybe resonant frequency or something like that. It sounded vey musical since they were using 3 tones per octave, like a scale based on an augmented fifth chord.
